In December 1888, Van Gogh conceived the plan of painting the whole family of Joseph Roulin, the postman, with whom he had become friends: SÀhusband, wife, baby, the little boy and the son of 16 – each types in their own right, and really French, even if they look like Russians.? The portraits of the parents have become especially famous. The SÀlittle boy,? Camille, was eleven years old when this portrait was painted. |
